Oooh, Fickle Weather!!

The best way to describe Texas' weather is to compare it to menopause (not that I would know), one minute it's hot and then the next minute it's cold. For example, yesterday, we had a low of 23 degrees and everything was iced over and today it was 55 degrees. Another example of craziness; I believe it was Christmas day, it was roughly 80 degrees and people were swimming at the local pool. As a result of this fickle weather, I am now sick! smile_sick

photobooth_2On a lighter note, I got the tiffany blue cover stock that I ordered online and have started on the invitations!! Everyone say "YAY"!!! clap I've made 8 pocketfold invitations w/o the details and ribbon. I have also been working on the tiny paper cranes as well and I think I'm going to start every blog from here on out with a crane count. Crane count right now is 50, only 950 more to go! Recently I've attended 2 bridal shows so far with 2 of my friends who are also engaged (one with Natalie and one with Andrea). The last one I went to was a blast. I won a cute bridal shirt, crystal flute glasses and got lots of other fun cute stuff. I'm going to have to look for one in OH and drag Scott's mom and Aunt to one.

smile_nerd Scott has been working like crazy the last couple of weeks. This past week he has had training. I feel for him because he will have class for 10 plus hours and come home to work. Hopefully once he has gotten the hang of things he won't have to work as much.

We've also been going to mass every Sunday for the last 2 plus months. Yes, we are very proud of ourselves! :-D I was supposed to start RCIA before Christmas but it didn't follow through as planned, I need to arrange for that to happen and schedule our marriage classes. I will probably wait until Scott feels a little more comfortable with his position and there's more consistency.

I think my cold is getting to me, so this may be my shortest blog. As I promised, I will conclude this with pictures!

Super Bride

Scott, Porkchop and I had a splendid Christmas. We recorded a video for everyone but the file was too large to load. :-( We opened presents on Christmas Eve and went to midnight mass. On Christmas day we saw the movie Marely and Me, which was an awesome movie, and I made a Korean dinner.

It's been a great year so far. I started the year off by chopping my hair off. On January 1st I decided that it was time for a change and cut off over 11inches of hair, which I will be donating to locks of love. No worries, I plan on having it back to it's "normal" length in time for our wedding. I think I'm going to cut it all off again in about 3 years and donate it. I will probably do this until my hair turns gray. I celebrated another birthday (woohoo), 24 now.I've also been trying to get back into shape. Scott got me personal training sessions for Christmas, no assumptions, that was my only request for Christmas. But of course he went above and beyond that and I definitely got spoiled for Christmas.

To a good cause

For the past week, I've been in wedding mode. My friends even coined up a term for me "Super Bride", meaning, a do it yourself bride and then some. They said I wasn't a "Bridezilla" because I'm not mean about my wedding, I just want to make as much of it as I possibly can. Trying to be frugal! :-) The funny thing is, with the amount of time I'm spending/will be spending on making everything, I could probably get a second job and make a little extra money to pay for it...but that's not fun!

I've already made my template for the invitation, map, rsvp card, reception card, and program. I also finished off our guest list annnd we booked a date with the church, June 5, 2010! I have been reading endless blogs and forums that other brides have written on their DIY projects. With every article/blog/forum I read I seem to want to add a new project to my list. I read a article today about making 1001 paper cranes. I planned on making paper cranes to place at everyone's seat but now after reading this article I'm inspired to make 1001 cranes.

"According to Japanese lore, folding 1,000 origami cranes is truly a labor of love. (Ain’t that the truth.) Tradition holds that the bride who finishes this task before her wedding day will be rewarded with a good and happy marriage. (The groom folds the 1001th. One!?! What the - ?) The crane also mates for life and is said to live for one thousand years, ensuring the couple’s good fortune. The crane will also grant one wish."

I just don't know what I'm going to do with all of them but I have plenty of time to figure that out. 1001 sounds like a crazy amount but if I make 2 cranes a day I will have enough. I'm not going to make them in crazy colors nor will they be big. I've already made a couple from 3x3 paper. I'm sticking to the theme of tiffany blue and white and will use those colors to make them. Hopefully it doesn't sound too farfetched or crazy but I plan to incorporate them tastefully.

Here's a list of my DIY projects:

Pocket fold Invitations
Invitation Inserts; RSVP card, MAP, Accommodations card, Reception card (I've completed most of this, I just have to fill in the information, cut, and assemble)
Programs
Menus
Place Cards
Escort Cards
1001 paper cranes
Table Numbers
Gift Card Box
Ring bearer pillow
Guest book

That's it for now, I'm sure that list will grow. I've made mock ups/ templates for just about everything and I'm just awaiting the details and paper (ordered today).

logo I made. Trying to be creative with 2 S's isn't easy so I just used the letter Y

I'm describing our theme as Tiffany's with an Asian twist.. I even like the idea of throwing in some soft yellow. I even talked Scott into letting us have chopsticks at everyone's seat. I'm excited. I'm also trying to think of inexpensive centerpieces. I like the idea of cherry blossoms. I wouldn't mind having huge floral centerpieces but they're so expensive. I'm not fond of the amount weddings cost and feel very stubborn with having to spend so much.

Here's a sneak peak of what the place setting will look like. The paper I used isn't tiffany blue and I will probably tweak this look. also some pictures of stuff I like.

Wow, I think I've babbled far too much about wedding stuff and neglected to talk about Scott and Porkchop. I will dedicate this next paragraph to them.

Scott started his new job last Monday and he absolutely loves it. He works from home which is nice. We got rid of our guest bed(my old bed and one not worth saving) and converted the guest bedroom to a full on office/ crafting room. No new furniture besides the new chair Scott got for Christmas. We took a TV dinner stand and the old computer chair and created a spot for me. This is my typing location now. I also brought out my little floor Korean table for my wedding crafts. Porkchop loves it because he thinks it's his hide out. So, the room we barely used is, now where we spend our time.

As for Porkchop, we noticed he was scratching his right ear constantly and so we took him to the vet. Turns out he has an ear infection. He has ear drops that have to be given once a day. We haven't taught him any new tricks that would put his "freaze" trick to shame. I am teaching him a leap. I don't have anything for him to jump over, so I've been using my leg as a leap mark. Probably not the brightest idea I've had.

I promise to try and make the next blog a little more colorful and provide pictures.
